2016/17 Season Review: November
There were only two games in November but every game is important, especially when one of those two is a cup game. A spot in the cup quarter final was at stake when Chichester City Ladies game to South Wales before Cardiff would travel to London to take on West Ham United Ladies.
6th November 2016: Cardiff City Ladies 7 – 1 Chichester City (Bartlett 2’, L Williams 15’, 16’, C Williams 27’, Chivers 30’, 62’, Britton 34’)
City Ladies were at risk of being on the wrong end of a cup upset when Chichester City Ladies came to town, but after finding themselves 5-1 up after just half an hour, that risk was gone. The game started quickly for Cardiff with Kerry Bartlett opening the scoring after just 90 seconds, volleying home Cori Williams’ cross. Laura Williams then got in on the act after Chichester equalised in the 9th minute, scoring two goals 45 seconds apart, barely giving the stadium announcer enough time to finish the first goal before the second went in. Cardiff’s fourth was from a penalty after Cori Williams was brought down in the box and went on to convert the spot kick, Chloe Chivers got her first of the game three minutes later, volleying home after controlling on her chest. Not content at 5-1 though Cardiff continued to press as Abbie Britton headed home just four minutes after that. Into the second half and not content with just the one goal, Chivers added to her tally for the day, unleashing a phenomenal strike from 25 yards that no keeper could have got close to and the score line increased to 7-1. In truth it could have been 13-1, with Cardiff striking the bar on no fewer than five occasions and having a shot cleared off the line. They would face Liverpool Marshall Feds in the quarter final.
Cardiff City Ladies: O’Sullivan, Bartlett (Allen 61’), Britton, Chivers, Evans, Green (B Lloyd 61’), C Lloyd, Suominen (Morgan 61’), Tinman, C Williams, L Williams
13th November 2016: West Ham United Ladies 0 – 4 Cardiff City Ladies (Bartlett (2), C Lloyd, L Williams)
Fresh off the big win against Chichester the week before it was time for another trip to London for a match against West Ham United Ladies, with Cardiff wanting to keep up the pressure at the top of the table. Two goals from Bartlett along with one each for Laura Williams and Chloe Lloyd was enough to secure a convincing 4-0 win over the London side, and Cardiff were still unbeaten through three months of matches.
