Cardiff City 2-4 CK Basildon
Basildon Ladies moved to within just one point of league leaders Crystal Palace after a 4-2 win away to Cardiff City Ladies. Two goals from Paige Wakefield and strikes from sisters Theresa and Angela Addison gave the away side a deserved three points.
Basildon had all of the ball in the opening 10 minutes with Cardiff struggling to get out of their own half.
The first half chance of the game fell to Cori Williams who found space in the box, only for a superb block from Stimson to deny her.
Basildon made their first big chance tell just ten minutes into the game when Paige Wakefield emphatically fires home a dangerous free kick, deserved lead.
Cardiff really struggled in the opening stages as Basildon firmly took control.
One thing that came clearly apparent in the opening 20 minutes was that Cardiff were getting dragged into giving away cheap free kicks, Basildon players all over the pitch were more than prepared to hit the floor at any time at any slight touch.
Basildon doubled their lead in fortuitous fashion after 20 minutes as Robert’s well timed interception fell perfectly for Theresa Addison who finished well past the onrushing Randall.
Cardiff got themselves back in it with their first shot on goal, Cori Williams easily outmuscled Duchar-Clarke before picking out the far corner with ease, a wonderful finish from the Cardiff captain just before the half hour mark.
Cardiff started to pile on some pressure after getting back in the game.
Cardiff should have had the opportunity to level things up but the referee failed to spot a clear push on Williams in the box, Basildon really got away with one.
Basildon almost had a chance to retake their two goal advantage only for a wonderful double tackle from Roberts to stop Blackie from getting in on goal.
After the first half hour, Cardiff would’ve taken a 2-1 score line and their tales were certainly up going into the second half.

Three minutes into the second half and Basildon did retake their two goal lead, a teasing cross into the box by Rushen was finished off by Angela Addison despite huge pressure from Roberts.
Cardiff almost got back in it once again, Williams again the threat as her effort went straight at the goalkeeper for a simple save.
Considering Cardiff ended the second half on such a high it was questionable how they created so few chances in the second half, it looked like they struggled to keep up with the pace of the game.
Cardiff got back in the game against the run of play after a free kick caused frenzy in the penalty area, substitute Sophie Thomas arrived perfectly at the back post to tap home to set up a potential grand stand last ten minutes.
Basildon almost put the game to bed but Randall pulled off the save of the game to deny Angela Addison after the winger worked her way into the box with ease. However, from the resulting corner the onrushing Wakefield headed home her second of the game.
Basildon saw out the remaining ten minutes without any real danger and claim a huge away victory in South Wales
